Day 3: Creativity Guest Post

Today we welcome our first guest, Julie Kirk.  I asked Julie to use today's theme because her own blog shows such a range of creativity.

Here are her thoughts on the Starting Point questions:

What does creativity mean to you?
To me creativity means some quite contradictory things:

It means I means saving money by not always buying a card or a gift but making one instead … but then we all know how stash shopping can get a little out of hand. And I‘ve seldom met a craft shop I didn’t like!

It means work and meeting deadlines as I contribute to crafting magazines … yet fortunately it still also means relaxation, switching off my brain and just gluing one bit of paper to another!

And it means freedom, ‘anything goes’ and pleasing myself … but if I want to share it with others – and I really do – it also means conquering the settings on my camera and corralling all my rambling ideas into a single coherent blog post or tutorial!

How do you express your creativity?
I’ve tried many crafts in the past but at the moment I feel my most comfortable with scrapbooking and art journaling.  But equally as important to my creative side is my blogging.

What in particular are you thankful for in the creative areas of your life?
I am eternally grateful that we’re not all the same.

The fact that some people like to read tutorials … while I prefer to write them ... means I get to share my creative ideas while expressing my lifelong ‘teacher-ish’ leanings.

I’m always delighted when someone gets in touch to say something they’ve seen or read of mine has helped them with a project or given them confidence to try something new.

Sharing ideas, tips and stories with others really is a huge motivation for me right across my creativity and I’m grateful for the internet for making the majority of that possible for me!

My page, featuring a pigeon which was partly cut from an old book and partly hand drawn and coloured  was influenced by today’s quote, technique and challenge.

My thanks to Julie for her contribution our challenge blog.

Day 3: Creativity

News
If you are on Facebook, I have set up An Attitude of Gratitude Journal Challenge group where you can share your thoughts on the daily theme or link your blog or add a photo.
Originally I wasn't going to have a Facebook group but there are a few people who are following along who don't have blogs or Flickr accounts themselves or who are making lists but not doing any art so I thought I would give a forum for that.  The group is open for everyone so do join in.

Starting Point:
What does creativity mean to you?
This is an interesting article.
How do you express your creativity?
What  in particular are you thankful for in the creative areas of your life?

Quote:
Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way.     Edward de Bono

Bible verse:
He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers.    Exodus 35:35

Inspiration:
Do schools kill creativity?

Technique Challenge:
Draw freehand
using any of the media you own - a pencil, a coloured pencil, a crayon, a paintbrush and paint.

Day 2: Today

Starting Point:
In the stressful world we live in, where time seems to fly by at an extraordinary rate, how can you make more of the moment?

How can you become more mindful of the things that are important in your life?

Which 3 things are you thankful for today?

Quote:
Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful. - Buddha

Bible verse:
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.  Psalm 118:24

Day 1: Wholeheartedness

Welcome to everyone who has recently decided to follow my blog.  I am overwhelmed by the interest shown in this Attitude of Gratitude Challenge Blog and delighted that so many people are going to follow along, and hopefully participate.  I hope you enjoy the next 30 days.

Starting Point:
What everyday moments in your life give you joy?

What 3 things are you grateful for today?

What changes might you need to make to see the positives in your life rather than the negatives?

Quote:
“I now see that cultivating a Wholehearted life is not like trying to reach a destination. It’s like walking toward a star in the sky. We never really arrive, but we certainly know that we’re heading in the right direction”. Brene Brown

Bible verse:
Psalm 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving  and his courts with praise;  give thanks to him and praise his name.

Inspiration:
Brene Brown has written a great book The Gifts of Imperfection where she found that people who live wholeheartedly practice joy, gratitude and creativity.  You might feel that this is a heavy place to start but stick with it.  Or ignore it today.  But I thoroughly recommend the book.

Check out a blog post and video from Roben-Marie Smith who used The Gifts of Imperfection to produce an art journal page.

Technique Challenge:
An easy challenge today, just to ease you in.
Use a colour you don’t like, or one you don’t use very often.

Thanks for joining me today.  Here is today's PDF to download.
